Chantal has spent many years working in both modern medicine and various practices of herbalism, as well as in traditional medicine as a ceremonialist. Firsthand, Chantal can tell you that having knowledge in all these areas is incredibly empowering. When you understand the benefits and limitations of modern medicine and traditional medicine and herbalism, you can make more informed decisions about your own health and well-being.
For example, while modern medicine can be incredibly effective for certain health issues, it often focuses on treating symptoms rather than addressing the underlying causes of the problem. The way Chantal practices herbal medicine, on the other hand, takes a more holistic approach, focusing on the whole person and addressing the root causes of health issues.

Clinical Herbal Consultations
My approach to tending to health aims to offer the best of Clinical Herbalism, while also acknowledging the benefits & limitations of Modern Medicine, as well as a variety of other healing modalities. My training and experience as a Nurse, as well as a Clinical Herbalist and ceremonialist, enables me to offer guidance that is informed by knowing when to use different approaches. Ultimately, this approach can provide more treatment options than you may have thought were available. I believe my purpose is to act as a bridge between different healing modalities - drawing on whatever is most supportive of those I serve and offering a personalized approach to health and wellness that is tailored to each person. During this session, I will learn about any health challenges you are facing and explore any treatments you have tried so far, including looking over any diagnostic testing you’ve undergone. We will examine all aspects of your health - mind, body, spirit, and emotions - so that we can work together to address any health challenges at their source.

Ancestral Healing Sessions and Ceremonial Care
We are literally the face of our ancestors. We are the torch bearers and pioneers of the path forward for generations to come and responsible for the healing of what was left remnant by the people who came before us. Any unfinished business - be it emotional, mental, physical, or spiritual, is left for future generations to tend to. Something that the mainstream, allopathic model of care overlooks is the link between ancestral trauma and illness. These sessions explore the interdependent and the interwoven relationship that our ancestors, plants, and humans have shared since time immemorial. Throughout the exploration we will examine how this relationship can serve as a healing bridge to recovering from deeply seeded illnesses that anchor themselves into the present generation. Additionally, we will explore the medicine wheel in relation to how intergenerational trauma impacts us in the present moment through wounds in our collective ancestral psyche that most often manifest as some form of illness. Lastly, we will discuss epigenetics and how plants and humans are genetically interwoven and the impact of that in
working towards a more deeply healed outcome. We will work through the exploration of our ancestral wounding towards what gifts can emerge as we heal those and health instability within in ancestral lineages, across all timelines.

Truth and Reconciliation Integration Consultations
As a First Nations woman and a frontline worker whose worked with a wide variety of First Nations across so-called Canada, a large portion of Chantal’s focus has been on integrating Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Traditional teachings and approaches into the places that she resides and offers services. Included in this integration is the growing body supporting literature that exists regarding how to meaningfully incorporate the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Actions, as well as other important documents such as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Through hands on experience and tangible examples, together with your organization, Chantal can create a working and functional plan related to integrating Traditional ways of knowing and being, into meaningful and authentic action.

Medicine Making
Chantal began medicine making in various forms, while in her early years as a BScN student when learning about her First Nations ancestry and studying alternative therapies in a university course offered by Athabasca University. Chantal creates a wide variety of different forms of medicines and is constantly learning about new and improved ways of doing so. Currently, Chantal is learning about how to create Spagyric tinctures and medicines and continues to create everything from herbal oil infusions, to flower essences and herbal teas.

Chantal Gagne was born and raised in Northern Ontario. She is a biracial Anishinaabe woman and a registered band member of the Sagamok Anishinawbek First Nation. Her ancestral lineages include those of the Ojibway Nation, as well as a mixed European Heritage - all of which have shaped who she is today. After leaving her childhood stomping grounds, Chantal roamed and lived in many places.
Currently, Chantal calls Land of the Ktunaxa People, in the East Kootenays, home. There, she lives on an off-grid homestead with her partner and daughter, tending to organic food and medicine gardens, animals, and the Spirit of the Land and of Life. For over 20 years Chantal has been building reciprocal, hands-on, relationships with our plant relatives. Chantal has also been an apprentice to several Traditional First Nations Medicine people and elders, herbalists, and ceremonialists. Most recently, after practicing as a folk herbalist and ceremonialist for many years, Chantal completed a Clinical Herbalist Diploma, and now integrates all the ways of knowing. These ways also include her 20+ years of experience in healthcare as a BSN student and RN.
